Take Mumbai Matinee, for instance, about a 32-year-old man wanting to lose his virginity. Or 3 Deewaarein or Dhoop. "If a film like Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron was made 20 years from then, it would be something like Waisa Bhi Hota Hai," Ghosh says.

"It''s a credible story of a normal guy who is not a fighter. The forces conspire around him, urging him to take the next steps. He gets what he wants, but not the way he wanted it. The film is truly, fully time-pass," he adds.

Going by that logic, films like Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa and Dil Chahta Hai would also be slotted along with WBHH.

Gupta adds, "I really hope this film revives the genre of subtle black comedy. And we''re hoping the public believes that Shah Rukh acted in Part 1, if there was one. Just kidding!"

"Actually, you have to see the film to understand this. The truth is that there is no predecessor to this ''better half''," he says.

And if the rules of Bollywood are tweaked for good, blame it on the pre-sequel.
