It was worth the wait: Smilie

Smilie Suri tells Sharin Wader as she gets ready to make a comeback with not one but three films this year.
It was worth the wait: Smilie
You saw her in Kalyug as the shy, demure girl, but now get ready to meet the bubbly, effervescent, sparkling with life Smilie Suri.
Hers is not a transition from salwar kameez to short skirts, but its a change of her overall persona. The girl has matured and her experiences with the world and the film industry at large, has taught her a lot, she admits.

After Kalyug it was a slow learning process. I wanted to do something better after my first film. I was getting offers for similar type of roles but I didnt want to be typecast. But I knew it would come, said Smilie, who will now be seen in Andalib Majrooh Sultanpuris film Down Town alongwith newcomer Akhil Rajendra, Vinod Khanna and Rati Agnihotri, N Chandras Yeh Mera India and Kunal Deshmukhs next.
The year 2009 has a lot in store for her but is there any project with brother, filmmaker Mohit Suri? I could have asked him to help me out, but I wanted to work outside my home production, said Smilie, who was determined to prove that she could make it on her own in the industry. Its not that I wouldnt like to work with him, but as of now, things are happening the way they should. Mohit is busy working with Emraan Hashmi whos a cousin of ours. I always pull Emraans leg, saying Zara hat abhi mujhe bhi kaam karne do, laughed Smilie, who agrees that these days its not necessary to have the backing of a big banner. A good story, screenplay and marketing works more than a big starcast. A film like Bheja Fry did so well. Repeat value only happens when the script is good, said the actress, who is also looking forward to her challenging role in Yeh Mera India. I play Asha Ambedkar a dalit, who falls in love with a Brahmin boy. Its a bold subject and Im glad I got to be a part of it. In Down Town, I play a smalltown girl who is very modern in her approach. She comes to Mumbai to take part in a reality show. Its a story that unfolds on a single day, said the actress who is finally getting her due. Its all God sent, said Smilie, who has immersed herself in work so much that she says now her life lacks spice! Does that mean shes single? The only man in my life is Mambo, my dog, laughed the animal lover whos also involved in animal welfare activities.
