Nawazuddin Siddiqui who has often been compared with
Irrfan Khan talks to TOI about his comparison with actor Irrfan. Find below the excerpts from the chat:
From a one-minute role in Sarfarosh, to winning a National Award, has Nawazuddin Siddiqui finally arrived? Yes, he has. Though I let my work speak for itself, I know that audiences like my work. Even today, for a two-minute role, I will prepare the same way, as I prepare myself for an hour long one.
I am honest in my approach and it should reflect on the screen.
There was a time when designers refused to design for you. The designers weren’t wrong in their part. I can totally understand as I was not a known face then. I wasn’t a noted actor and I had not won any awards. But, it did not bother me as well. Even during this year’s visit to Cannes I wore an old suit. It hardly bothers me, and I am happy sporting old attire.
Has Nawazuddin changed as a person? Absolutely not. I wear the same clothes, eat the same food and have the same people as my friends. Life has treated me the same way. And so have I.
With fame comes comparisons. You have been compared to Irrfan Khan. You reaction. Both of us have different ways of performing.
Koi actor
khush nahin hota, if you compare them with anyone. And I am no exception. It is sad that he arrived before me. But we have different ways of acting. It is not right to compare me with any one.
Ittefaq se woh aagey aa gaye hai industry
mein. I am even compared to
Naseeruddin Shah. But even his style of acting is different. I want to be remembered as Nawazuddin Siddiqui and not
Shahenshah.
