Is Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Rowdy Rathore 2' happening soon?

Earlier today, reports surfaced that Sanjay Leela Bhansali will be producing 'Rowdy Rathore 2', with Kannada director Prem on board to develop the script. The sequel to the 2012 hit, which starred Akshay Kumar, is set to begin casting in summer 2025, following the completion of Prem's current project, 'KD – The Devil'.


Recent reports about 'Rowdy Rathore 2' suggest that Sanjay Leela Bhansali is set to produce the sequel, with Kannada director Prem involved in the project. However, a source revealed to News18 that there has been no significant development at the production house. The director has not yet been finalised, and while many are interested in the project, progress remains stalled. Speculations had previously suggested that Anees Bazmee might direct the film.

Speaking to News18, Anees Bazmee stated that 'Rowdy Rathore 2' is still in its early stages, with discussions ongoing. He mentioned, "When it’s the right time to announce, we will." There is currently no confirmation on whether the film will be a direct sequel or a spiritual successor to the 2012 original, which starred Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha.

For those unfamiliar, a recent report from Pinkvilla suggested that discussions about Akshay Kumar's return for 'Rowdy Rathore 2' are ongoing, but no official announcements have been made. The source indicated that it could feature Kumar, a new hero, or even be a two-hero film. Meanwhile, Sanjay Leela Bhansali is currently busy with his film 'Love & War', starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal, and has also announced 'Heeramandi 2'.
