After 'Saiyaara,' starring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, became a huge hit and connected deeply with viewers, both fans and industry observers started to wonder if the movie would become a full-fledged franchise. A successful movie in Bollywood frequently opens the door for follow-ups as producers try to capitalize on its success. However, director Mohit Suri has a different viewpoint on Saiyaara, and it might not be what fans were looking for.

In an interview with Faridoon Shahryar, Mohit stated that it was the producer’s call and mentioned having had his fair share of sequels, wishing them all the best. He further shared that Adi believed if a film became a classic, its magic should not be ruined by creating another sequel.


Although Mohit doesn't rule it out entirely, his remarks imply that the filmmakers, particularly producer Aditya Chopra, are more interested in maintaining the film's legacy than in running the risk of decreasing its emotional impact with a sequel.

As the director of 'Murder 2,' 'Aashiqui 2,' 'Ek Villain Returns,' 'and Raaz: The Mystery Continues,' Mohit is no stranger to directing sequels. Not all of them, though, have been able to duplicate their originals' success. Both 'Murder 2' and 'Aashiqui 2' were critically acclaimed for their songs and significant narratives, with the latter even outperforming the first. However, both the critical and commercial reactions to 'Raaz: The Mystery Continues' and 'Ek Villain Returns' were conflicting.

Ahaan and Aneet made their film debuts in Mohit Suri's 'Saiyaara,' which unexpectedly became a hit. It broke all previous records, earning more than ₹500 crore worldwide, making it the highest-grossing romantic film ever made in India. The film's soundtrack and fan engagement caused it to go viral without any traditional advertising. The title song achieved a historic milestone when it entered Billboard's global charts. Meanwhile, 'Saiyaara' caused a stir by drawing comparisons between star power and new talent in the industry and facing allegations of plagiarism. The film's emotional depth and organic success revolutionized Bollywood debuts, demonstrating that outstanding storytelling and music can be successful even in the absence of famous actors or excessive advertising. This hit from 2025 is still going strong.
