BAFTA-winning filmmaker Asif Kapadia is in love with the desert state. It is one of his favourite parts of India, he says, and lists his must-do things when in the stateYou shot “The Warrior” in Rajasthan. Did you scout for the locations yourself?Yes, I did the scouting myself along with my associate director Amit Kumar.
What were the three must-sees for you when you came here then? It’s been too long! I was last in Rajasthan in 2003.
But I love to go off the beaten track and come across villages, forts and temples in the desert. I find exploring a deserted fort on the top of a mountain more interesting than the famous touristy places.
And the three must-dos?Visit Udaipur, Jaisalmer and Mount Abu.
Now Rajasthan is popular for the IPL matches too...Yes, lovely, isn’t it? I hope to be invited to a match one day!
Over the years, a lot has changed in Rajasthan... Yes, but not in the real sense, not in my view point. I like getting lost in the desert, the small villages and forts rather than in the big cities, and those things are still very much there.
Is there anything else on your wishlist?I’d love to attend the Jaipur Literature Festival, and the Elephant festival. I’ve been to Pushkar, but not during the festival there. I hope to do all these things soon.
Will you be here for work? Looking for more Indian actors? If I could, I would like to cast
Irrfan Khan in every single film I make.
