Vishal Bhardwaj’s Maqbool would be the ideal example but Irfan Khan and Tabu share a peculiar on-screen chemistry.
This is apparent especially in the latter half of Mira Nair’s The Namesake, where they play sober 60-year-olds. This invincible duo will now be seen in Ang Lee’s adaptation of Yann Martel’s bestseller Life Of Pi.
A source from the film’s unit says, “Irfan Khan will play Pi’s father and will be paired with Tabu.” Incidentally, the last film Tabu and Irfan starred in, The Namesake, was an adaptation of Jhumpa Lahiri’s book by the same name.
1x1 polls

Irfan Khan and Tabu’s collective magic in The Namesake is being re-ignited and that too in an international film. They say Ang Lee was very keen on casting them as Pi’s parents for a very long time. Though Sushant Singh and Sonu Sood were also being considered for Pi’s father’s role, it finally went to Irfan Khan.
They say Ang Lee had made up his mind about Irfan at the stage when he conceived the film. Irfan however signed the film only recently. Pricey!
The film that stars a 17-year-old newcomer from Delhi, Suraj Singh, tells the story of a boy named Pi, who gets stranded at sea for 227 days with a tiger.
