Imtiaz Ali and brother Sajid Ali tease fans with cryptic post, hinting at new love story after ‘Laila-Majnu’, netizens react

As 'Laila Majnu' was highly celebrated during its re-release, Imtiaz Ali has teased the possibility of another collaboration with Sajid Ali who wrote and directed 'Laila Majnu'. Recently, he shared a cryptic post on social media, featuring a piece of paper adorned with leaves, prominently displaying the title Laila Majnu. The post also referenced other legendary love stories, including Sohni-Mahiwal, Sassi-Punnu, Mirza-Sahiba, Heer-Ranjha, Shireen-Farhad, and Romeo-Juliet, captioned with the intriguing phrase, “sabki kahani likhi huyi hai… how about the next Love Legend?!!”

This announcement has sparked excitement among fans, eager to see what the duo will create next. Fans quickly tried to decode the post, with one user commenting, “Is this a hint?” Another said, “Uff are we ready yet? Always.” A third added, “Waiting......for THE NEXT, LEGEND.” One more exclaimed, “CANNOT possibly wait Sir!!!” Another fan cheered, “one more epic yayyyy.”

In 2018, Imtiaz Ali collaborated with his brother Sajid Ali on Laila Majnu, a modern retelling of the classic Persian love story. The film, featuring Avinash Tiwary as Qais and Tripti Dimri as Laila, explored the depths of forbidden love against the stunning backdrop of Kashmir. Despite its artistic merit and the heartfelt performances of its leads, the film struggled at the box office during its initial run, lasting only six days in theaters. However, the narrative resonated with audiences over time, leading to its recent re-release, which has been met with a warm reception.
In an interview with TOI Imtiaz Ali remarked on this phenomenon, stating, “I’m glad Laila Majnu has reached the category of films that are meant to have a long shelf life.” He highlighted the rarity of a film that did not perform well commercially receiving a second chance in theaters, drawing parallels to classics like Sholay, which also struggled initially but later became iconic.
