Hottie Sameera Reddy, as she reveals her mantras for staying cool in the sweltering heat.
Summer naturally translates to scorching sun and heat and it’s a season we definitely do not welcome with open arms! And even though monsoon are close to arrival, the heat in the city is getting worse by the day. So, instead of cribbing, I think it’s best to get accustomed to it and find ways to beat the heat!
To start with, my basic mantra to keep cool is to have loads of water.
1x1 polls
It sounds clichéd, but it’s one of the most trusted facts. I also have coconut water, butter milk, fresh juices like carrot, or mixed fruit during the day. Adding sabza in cold rose milk also keeps the body temperature down and is one of my favourites! Fresh fruits and vegetables are available all throughout the summer, so I make the most of the opportunity to eat as much fresh produce as possible. Not only is it delicious, but it is low in fat, and high in fibre, vitamins and minerals. And the best is to have simple home-cooked food with less oil and spices which I prefer the most.
When it comes to clothes; I keep it simple and chic by wearing light-coloured cotton clothes that attract less heat. Dark clothes are a complete no as they invite the maximum heat. Make sure you are prepared to take full advantage by wearing comfortable clothing with a stylish flair. I stay miles away from lycra and tight clothes.
During summer you sweat a lot and because of that your make up is bound to get messy. The sweltering heat and humidity of the summer months can wreak havoc with your summer makeup. And therefore the best way is to avoid make-up in summer or keep it minimalistic. Also a sunblock is a must for me to avoid those skin burns. I also apply a homemade face mask constituting one egg-white mixed with a little honey and hazel which is also very effective in dealing with sunburn.

Pick up a favourite hobby like swimming. I am an absolute water-babe and can swim for hours endlessly. Evening swimming is bliss! I thoroughly enjoy it as it helps me rejuvenate! My favourite getaways include New York, France, but Geneva tops my list as my sister Meghna resides there. It’s one of the most serene and beautiful place with a completely soothing weather!
Sameera’s tips
Moving out without a sunblock is inviting trouble. Not only does it cause break-outs and skin damage, but in the long run may also cause cancer.
Keep yourself well-hydrated. Drinks plenty of fluids.
Go for fresh salads and light home-cooked meals instead of spicy food.
Wash your face as often as possible. Keep it clean.
Wear light cotton clothes. Floral dresses, shorts, capris are all great for the heat. Give your denims a break this season.
Go for a good pair of glares.
Open toed footwear and flip flops are ideal for the summer.
Swimming is a great way to stay fit and beat the heat.
