In his address to the audience, the Israeli filmmaker Nadav was heard saying, “We were, all of us, disturbed and shocked by the 15th film: The Kashmir Files. That felt to us like propaganda, vulgar movie, inappropriate for an artistic competitive section of such a prestigious film festival.”

On a closing note, he added, “I feel totally comfortable to share openly these feelings here with you on stage. Since the spirit of having a festival is to accept also a critical discussion which is essential for art and for life.”

Earlier this March, the film had a theatrical release and went on to break all box-office records. The film starring Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty and Pallavi Joshi, revolves around the killings of Kashmiri Pandits in 1990 from the valley.

The film was received well by the audiences and critics in India, however was banned in a few countries as many called it out for its propagandist tone.

However, the Consul General of Israel, Kobbi Shoshani later took to his social media handle and expressed that he has a very different opinion on the film. His tweet read, “I saw the Kashmir file and met the cast. I have a different opinion than Nadav Lapid. After his speech, I told Nadav my opinion. @vivekagnihotri”.
