Earlier this week, when Danish director Thomas Vinterberg’s

Another Round

was nominated for the 78th

Golden Globe Awards

in foreign film category, it was a moment of celebration for Indian cinephiles too. The reason being that Another Round was the opening film of

51st IFFI

(

International Film Festival of India

), which concluded recently.

The film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival last September, and had its India premiere at

IFFI

in Goa in January. An official associated with IFFI shares, “We are glad that a film, which was the opening film of IFFI, has been nominated for the Golden Globes. It is an honour for us as it also reinforces the IFFI brand globally. It endorses the quality of films that we select for screening at IFFI, and we did so even at a time when we faced challenging situations due to COVID.”

Last year’s Best Picture winner at Oscars, Parasite, was also screened at IFFI in 2019. Another Round, (originally titled Druk) is also Denmark’s official entry for the 93rd Oscars, and it had a physical screening in Goa with cinephiles lining up to catch the show. The film tells the story of four Danish male school teachers who experiment to find out if drinking helps them to deal with their mid-life disappointments. The men have alcohol every day to see how it affects their social and professional lives.

The film stars Mads Mikkelsen, among others, and this is Mikkelsen’s second collaboration with Vinterberg. Before this, they collaborated for The Hunt, which got Mikkelsen the Best Actor Award at Cannes in 2012.
