. “They called mebecause they had seen my ads; I was one of the 600-700 girls they tested. Therewere five auditions, and really long tests. I’d go in the morning and getout at 9 pm. They tested me for scenes and dance, and with Akshay (in the thirdround),” recalls Sandeepa.Working on a film being produced bya reputed production house was a fantastic experience, says Sandeepa, but shemaintains that bagging a big-banner film wasn’t as important to her asworking with like-minded people. “The entire crew is under 30, so therewas a certain amount of passion and energy because it’s a do-or-die kindof thing,” she explains. Was she apprehensive about making herdebut with a cast and crew of newbies, considering several upcoming B-townprojects are launching star kids? “Not at all. You don’t need to bea star kid to have a successful debut. In fact, if you have a blank slate,it’s far better because you’re not carrying any baggage. You have alot more to share with your co-stars. Akshay and I come from similar familiesand our thought processes are similar. That is so important because in a lovestory, it’s important to have that chemistry,” she says.Sandeepa hasn’t even done what most B-town rookies usually do— enroll in an acting school — but she has no regrets on that score.“I
don’t think any kind of formal education in acting could havetaught me what I learnt on the job. I’m the sort of person who learns moreon the job. I got to learn so much from being on a set, not just in terms ofacting, but also in terms of interacting with different people and sharing somany emotions,” says Sandeepa. Now that she’s got a lovestory out of the way, would Sandeepa try any other genre? “I want to do asmany different films and roles as possible. Else, I’ll get bored andpeople will get bored seeing me doing the same thing. I’d love to do anaction film. The last ad that I did was for a deo and involved full-on action. Idid parkour. It was a lot of fun. I’m game for different stuff,” shestates.Follow us on Twitter for more stories
