The censorship controversy on 'Udta Punjab' seems to be getting murkier by the day. After the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), popularly known as Censor Board suggested 89 cuts in the film that highlights the much prevalent drug racket in Punjab, co-producer Anurag Kashyap of Phantom Films, lashed out at the censor authority and said, "It's like living in North Korea" and even called CB Chief Pahlaj Nihalani "extremely egoistic man".

However, the latest development is that the Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore has retorted to Anurag Kashyap's 'North Korea' comment. While addressing the media at a recently held press conference, when the I&B Minister of state was asked to comment on the issue and what he had to say about Kashyap's 'North Korea' comment, Rathore said, "India is a democracy. Do you think or feel you are living in North Korea? Let's take a vote on who thinks India is as bad as North Korea."

An infuriated Anurag further tweeted in support of the film saying it's the most honest film ever made. "There is no film more honest than UDTA PUNJAB .. And any person or party opposing it is actually GUILTY of promoting drugs" he tweeted.

On the one hand, while the film has been facing a lot of censorship issues, on the other, the entire film fraternity stands united in support of the film and wants the censor board to either give the film A-certificate and let it release without any cuts or give in writing why it needs 89 cuts.
