I’d love to work with mom and Saif, says Soha. Soha Ali Khan doesn’t like to play favourites. Not when it comes to people. “I think people who have favourites are boring,” she proclaims, confidently. Is she still the shy, diffident newcomer? “One learns, one accepts, and moves on. Experience is always enriching. And it makes you grow up,” she says. And she has grown up pretty nicely too.
She laughs, “Careerwise too I am happy. It’s after a long wait that I have finally been able to work with a female director (in Chauraha). And I had a great time.”So, she’s come a long way from just being known as Saif Ali Khan’s sister or Sharmila Tagore’s daughter? “Well, mom still worries about me, and keeps SMS-ing me when I am on outdoor shoots. She’s still very protective about me. Saif’s still doing the elder brother bit, and dad’s attitude towards me hasn’t changed either.” Does she mind all this? “No, family is supposed to be like that — caring and sharing, she says. Talking of Saif, what does she think of the way he has handled himself? “Saif is an enormously talented and hardworking actor. In the 14 years he’s been in the industry, he’s done some neat work. He deserves all the fame he has got.” Does she take acting tips from him now? “His strengths are different from mine and therefore it is very difficult to do that,” she says. And given a chance, will she work with Sharmila and Saif? “Why not? But not just for the sake of acting with them. The script has to be good, and there has to be a right royal reason why the three of us should be in it.”
