I wouldn’t say one is better than the other, South and Hindi cinema both have their own working styles: Sunil Sharma

Actor Sunil Sharma, who is being appreciated for his small yet impactful performance in Dhurandhar: The Revenge, reflects on his experience working in the South film industry and how it has shaped him as a performer.

Calling the experience enriching, Sunil highlights the discipline and structure that stood out to him the most. “It has been very enriching, especially in terms of discipline and work structure,” he shares. “There is a strong sense of planning and clarity on set—everything from call times to execution is very well organized. This creates a highly focused environment for actors to perform at their best.”





While acknowledging these strengths, Sunil is quick to point out that the Hindi film industry is evolving in its own way. “Bollywood can sometimes be more flexible or spontaneous in its approach. I wouldn’t say one is better than the other—both have their own working styles. However, the precision and discipline of the South industry definitely stood out and helped me grow as a professional.”

He also notes the contrast in storytelling styles between the two industries. “South cinema often embraces larger-than-life narratives, strong emotional arcs, and high-impact moments, which demand a certain intensity and energy in performances. At the same time, they are now exploring more grounded and realistic storytelling.”

“In contrast, Bollywood has been leaning more towards realistic and content-driven cinema in recent years. This shift reflects in performances as well—actors tend to internalize emotions more and focus on subtlety,” he adds.

For Sunil, navigating both worlds is an opportunity rather than a challenge. “Adapting to both styles is exciting.
