'I was very lucky': Bobby Deol says he slept with his parents till 14 and that Dharmendra always kept the lights on
Actor Bobby Deol recently opened up about his early years and family life, offering a rare glimpse into his close bond with his parents, Dharmendra and Prakash Kaur.
In an interview with IANS, the Animal actor shared that he slept with his parents until the age of 14, a practice he believes is common in Indian households. Bobby reminisced about growing up in a large joint family where space was shared among siblings and relatives. “I was very lucky. I slept with my parents till I was 14 years old. My mother used to tell me to go down and sleep. Because we live in a joint family. We have a bungalow, but we don’t have that many rooms,” he said.
Dharmendra’s habit that stuck with Bobby
Bobby also spoke about an interesting habit he inherited from his father, Dharmendra. The veteran actor always kept the lights on while sleeping, something Bobby has continued into adulthood. “I don’t like it when it’s dark. My wife and I always have a fight. We have installed a night light on the floor because I don’t like it when it’s dark,” Bobby admitted. He added, “I think I got used to it because when I was 14 years old, I used to sleep with my parents. And my father always used to sleep with the lights on. So, I think that’s why I got used to it.”
Childhood filled with warmth and attachment
Recalling his younger days, Bobby shared how deeply attached he was to his parents. He often cried when asked to sleep separately, as he preferred to stay close to them. “There was a room where all my sisters used to live and one where my brother used to live. My mother used to tell me to share the room with my brother, but I always used to get upset and cry that I don’t want to go down,” he recalled. His stories reflect a warm, emotional upbringing rooted in the closeness of family life.
