Cool dude: Pravin Dabas (TOI Photo) While Pravin Dabas moved on from acting long back, its taken a lil long for this model-turned-actor to get his due in the film industry.
But he sure hasnt given up. With a spate of movies lined up for him this year including Rajaatesh Nayars Sirf Life Looks Greener On The Other Side, where hell be playing a comic character, Pravin in a candid chat with KT tells us about his past, present and future plans.
1x1 polls

Happy having bagged Sirf..., he says, I am playing the character of an advertising professional whos married to a rural girl, which is played by Rituparna Sengupta. And though my scenes in the movie are comical, they are very close to being real and Im sure masses will relate with them.
All right, but wonder why has the actor done so lil where work is concerned? Thats because I am very selective, says Pravin, adding I don't work for money. I take only those movies where Im can give the best of my acting skills. Its more about showing my versatility than earning money through this profession.
But given the fact that he went all the way to American Academy of Acting, New York, does this quantum of work satisfy him? See, I started my career with modelling but always wanted to move to acting. My main aim was to get fame. And my acting course did help. For, as soon as I returned to India post that acting course, I started getting offers from directors. And Im happy with the movies Ive done. My first film Monsoon Wedding
, which was a huge, hit and was liked by all. Then I played a negative character in Dillagi, which is also one of my memorable roles. While signing Khosla Ka Ghosla, I think has been my wisest step, says the confident actor.
But irrespective of the quantum of work, the actor has been lucky enough to bag The World Unseen, an English film, with actor Lisa Ray, which is slated to release this year.
So how was the experience? Oh, it was good. I am playing this character who lives in South Africa. And the entire story is based on how he loses his wife and family because of his behaviour and then how he finally gets them back.
Having worked in both English and Hindi cinema, is there any major difference he finds between the two? No, nothing major. In fact, I feel Indian movies have a better approach compared to the English ones. And anyway, Indian directors are not less in any manner which shows in the kind of movies that are being made and are being appreciated the world over.
So, any particular director hes always aspired to work with? Oh, there are many, he laughs, adding, I want to work with both the new as well as the established filmmakers. Id be happy if I get to work with directors like Karan Johar, Farhan Akhtar and Madhur Bhandarkar.
His dream may sure come true in the future, but for now, Pravin has his handsful with N Chandras Yeh Mera India, Arindam Nandys Via Darjeeling, Sanjay Guptas Alibaugh and Shamim Sariffs The World Unseen. Besides this, the actors also lent his voice for the upcoming Rajiv Maikhuri mythological animation film Secrets of the Seven Sounds, which is due to release in June.
