I don’t have guts to make another 'Anjaam': Rumy Jafry
Writer-director Rumy Jafry who has penned and directed films like 'Anjaam', 'Chalte Chalte', 'Rang De Basanti', 'Golmaal Returns', 'Yamla Pagla Deewana' others in the past, is all excited about his upcoming directorial venture 'Gali Gali Chor Hai'. Excerpts from the chat with him…
Most of your films are light hearted?
I had started with 'Paayal' and 'Waqt Hamara Hai' twenty year back, but my third film 'Anjaam' was a serious one.
1x1 polls
After watching that film many of my friends told me that you are such a jolly kind of a person, how cum you made such an intense film with so much of violence in it. It was then I thought of making only light hearted and comic films with some message because people enjoy such flicks. Thus, 'Gali Gali Chor Hai' is a satirical comedy with strong undercurrent of politics and how the aam admi fights against corruption.
The content of the film looks quite inspired from the on-going Anna Hazare fight against corruption?
Any film takes more than a year to complete which includes the scripting, casting, music and shooting. While Anna andolan started some seven to eight months back and we were almost ready with our script before all this started. So, it’s just a co-incidence with God’s grace that Anna issue came up now and people supported it.
Though your enjoy making light hearted films, but any plans to direct a serious one like Anjaam again?
I'm a director and would love to try different genre every time and would also love to make a serious films, but not 'Anjaam' kind of a one. Because Anjaamjaisi film likhne ya direct karne ke lie himmat nai hui aur na hai ab.
