The cast and crew of Sudhir Mishra’s “Yeh Saali Zindagi” were in Kolkata to promote the film on Saturday. Said Mishra, “I consider myself a storyteller, a man who sits under a tree and tells stories. On some days, he has a story, on some days he has none and on some days, he tells jokes. I didn’t want to do a mushy love story and I didn’t want to do a thriller.”
Elaborating on the two images he had in mind, the film-maker explained how the story took shape.
Continuing his take on the film, he said, “All films should be a suspense story. All good films are suspense films because they are unpredictable.” As for the title, he explained, “Zindagi pe kisi ka zor nahi chalta. I meant it affectionately. “YSZ” reflects the personality of the film.” Chitrangda, on her part, said, “You learn more about your mistakes with each film. Bahut daant padi hai in this film.” To this Sudhir added, “I have edited the mistakes,” to which the actor continued, “The editor deserves a thank you for it.” And while on the actor’s working relationship with the film-maker, she shared, “He was a lot softer with my first film. But because this is my fourth, he might have had certain expectations from me. He was like, ‘You are not getting it right’. Yes, he was a hard taskmaster.”
When asked about him working with big names, Sudhir answered, “I will make a film with
Aamir, someday. I also want to work with Saif.”
