Jaaved Jaaferi in a heart-to-heart chatDo you feel you are somewhere underrated as an actor? No, I think I am pretty satisfied with what has been dished out to me. I have been choosy with my roles because I prefer to do roles that have a 'defined' character. There is a lack of good accomplished writers in the industry so obviously we don't have comic films like a Golmaal, Padosan or Chupke Chupke.
But comedy has become important, so a hard hitting film like Ghajini had its lighter moments. And even if the so-called intelligent class criticizes the content of films today, my kids and the masses enjoy watching films like Welcome or All the Best. During my father's days (veteran comedian
Jagdeep Jaaferi) a comic actor was not integral to the script but today a lead actor is doing comic roles.Do you feel comedy is your forte? From a Shourya to Salaam Namaste to 3 Idiots and Dhamaal series, I think I have got a wide spectrum of work. And there are few directors like Raju Hirani who are able to balance entertainment and a social message. How do you rate the dance reality shows on television?I think dance shows are providing great opportunities for youngsters to showcase their talent. The only think I dislike about certain shows is their dramebaazi.I hate it when people exploit emotions.Do you feel the dance reality shows are more about gymnastics? That's because the whole new generation enjoys break dancing and hip-hop. The Indian style of dancing is on its way out if we don't do anything to preserve it. Even Michael Jackson did break dance and hip hop but never resorted to gymnastics. --
