Switch on the arc lights and she sets the screen on fire.
Sensual eyes and perfect body language - Bipasha Basu, the original sex siren, stands apart with her blazing personality and a brazen attitude to boot.

"Being sexy is not bad. It''s bad if you are devoid of sex appeal. Erotic appeal counts in the entertainment industry," she states, rationalising it more to a personality trait rather than the amount of skin show. "I have done every role - a housewife in Raaz, a cop in Gunah, a bold character in Jism and also a typical Hindi film heroine in a commercial potboiler like Footpath, but the media sees only the sexy bits. They get to me with the ''bombshell'' tag."

Life is currently hunky-dory and Bips happily twirls the tag in her favour. "It''s like this - Shahrukh Khan is liked for being ''Shahrukh Khan'', similarly I am liked for being sensuous - it''s not a drawback," she adds.

The sex kitten purrs with contentment as long as her kitty is full. "As an actor, I am happy that I am getting to play something far away from my real self, or what I ever will be." Her forthcoming films - Rakht, Chehra and Madhoshi will endorse that there is more to her than just oomph.

She has made her set of mistakes and is willing to admit them. "Yes, Rudraksh was a mistake!" But thereafter, Bips has decided on being extra-selective. She believes in a perfect blend of films - ones she enjoys, commercial hits and what would please her fans.

"Ninety per cent of the offers I get feel like making me run, but at least the rest ten per cent are good," she laughs. "Now, I don''t have to do everything that comes my way. I can pick and choose." She is refreshingly straightforward and not too big for her boots; if she is blunt, it''s about not liking a script.

"I have been called stuck up," she says, shrugging. She is humble and unaffected when she admits that "glamour is not permanent - it might not be there tomorrow. I will not get addicted to the adulation." She is honest when she says, "I was never offered the Jackie Chan film, Mallika was the lucky one."

She is up-front as she reveals her weaknesses. "I have my share of fears. I just cannot sleep alone in a room. My hairdresser has been sleeping with me for the past three years... and guess what," she adds with infectious laughter, "she is pregnant!"

She''s the girl-next-door as she worries over her kid sister. "She has just shifted to Mumbai and I worry about her all the time." That''s of course because Bipasha has come up the hard way - gossip, scandals, she has braved it all. "I do not believe in anything negative," she explains.

Her positive faith has made her a winner. As for the future, it''s a collage of dreams. "Studying filmmaking, making a movie, marriage, kids, a home... I will become a mother in some time and a normal housewife eventually."

Speaking of which, Bipasha does not shy away from admitting that she is seeing John Abraham and also that "everyone who is in love wants to settle down." But she is in no hurry to make the big commitment. That will happen three years down the line, after she has done it all.

"I am a very grounded person. I believe once I am married, I have to give up acting because marriage and kids are a full time job," she says, parting on a more reflective note. "If I were a Tarot card reader, I would have read the future and said that I will get married to John. At the moment, we are committed. But I can only wish, not predict what can happen after 3 years - we may or may not be together."

So much from the bootyliscious Bips...
