I am in love, says Diya Mirza

A fresh and radiant Diya Mirza opens the door for me. She's been working out and it shows. "I'm feeling good too!" she laughs. Having lost kilos, she looks va-va-voom. After she brews us both a cuppa, we settle down for a cosy one-on-one.

Having lost kilos, she looks va-va-voom. After she brews us both a cuppa, we settle down for a cosy one-on-one.
Considering her successive failures at the box office (Rehna Hai Terre Dil Mein, Deewaanapan, Tumko Na Bhool Paayenge) it''s surprising to find her so upbeat.

She''s confidence personified as she beams, "Slow and steady wins the race. I know of artistes whose first movies did very well, but whose later films flopped badly. Dealing with failure is tough but when it follows success, it''s worse. I''d rather take off slowly and ensure that I get somewhere. I''m sure the audience is aware of how much I''ve improved with every successive film."
Right now, Diya is high on E Niwas'' Dum, a remake of the Telugu Dil, which is 60 per cent complete. The actress is very impressed with the way the unit functions. "I just love the way they work. Everyone who has a suggestion is heard out," she gushes.
The most exciting role she''s played so far, she says, has been in Deepak Ramsay''s Koi Mere Dil Mein Hai. "I''ve never played a character with shades of grey before. Simran is an outlandish free spirit, totally chilled out. She''s this complete attention seeker, everything about her is so demanding. It''s been great fun playing a role that''s in total contrast to what I am. I even cut my hair for this role," she exclaims.
Another project she''s excited about is Pran Jaye Par Chawl Na Jaye directed by Sanjay Jha. "It''s a very earnest movie, but made on the lines of a spoof. So while we cry, the audience will be laughing," she reveals. "I play an ugly woman, Saundarya, whose parents want her to get married. Unfortunately all the men they line up for her reject her--she goes through 25 such rejections." She elaborates, "PJPCNJ deals with cosmetic beauty and how it''s changed the mindset of men today when it comes to selecting a bride. Can you believe that today even an ordinary looking guy wants a beautiful wife? Saundarya, who believes she''s truly ugly, decides there''s more to life than marriage and manages to get a hold on herself. Just then, she meets a man who helps her transform herself."
So Diya''s happy with the diverse roles she''s playing, content that she''s not just running around trees at the beginning of her career.
There''s more contentment on the personal front. The gossip columns have linked her with Vashu Bhagnani and Salman Khan in the past... is there a new man in her life? Suddenly shy, Diya whispers, "Yes. Bunty Sachdev...he''s a darling. I''ve always maintained that I lead an open life so I''m saying, yes, I''m in love! We met through a friend and no, it wasn''t Salman Khan." What started off as a mutual attraction has now developed into a great friendship, she says. "We''ve struck a great equation. We have great fun together, we get into these long conversations, talking about anything at all. One of the things he loves about me is that I yap a lot! We go out sometimes but we''re often at home too...I cook for him at home. When I''m with Bunty, I can forget I''m an actress and be myself. I''m a regular girl in love. Bunty''s my balance."
