Hrithik Roshan to Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda: Best celebrity debut hits in Bollywood

Some stars are born, but these ones exploded onto the screen with debut performances so powerful, they redefined what it means to enter Bollywood. From iconic double roles to breaking taboos, these actors did not just make an impression; they made history. From Alia’s style-first screen takeover to Anushka’s quiet emotional strength, and Ranveer’s raw Bittoo energy, these stars launched with a bang, and the industry was never the same again.

2/8

1. Hrithik Roshan as Rohit / Raj in Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai

Hrithik's dual-role debut was not just a launch; it was a supernova moment. As Rohit, he played the sweet, small-town musician with dreams in his eyes and a heart full of love. After Rohit's death, he returned as Raj, a dashing NRI with confidence and swag. His looks, acting, and dancing, especially ‘Ek Pal Ka Jeena’ turned him into an overnight heartthrob. The film was a massive blockbuster, and Hrithik bagged both Best Actor and Best Male Debut at every major award show, a rare feat.

3/8

2. Deepika Padukone as Shantipriya / Sandy in Om Shanti Om

Deepika had a picture-perfect debut. As Shantipriya, a graceful 70s movie star shrouded in nostalgia and chiffon, she embodied old-world charm. Her second role, Sandy, was a quirky, modern-day girl, confident and witty. It wasn't easy matching SRK's energy on her first film, but she did. With larger-than-life visuals, iconic lines, and reincarnation, in effect, she didn't just debut; she arrived.

4/8

3. Ayushmann Khurrana as Vicky Arora in Vicky Donor

Ayushmann broke the Bollywood mold by playing Vicky, a fun-seeking and somewhat aimless Delhi boy who becomes a sperm donor to make a quick buck. How many films have been made about sperm donation? It's a taboo subject, but Ayushmann's sensibility made the subject relatable and likable, and everyone embraced it, making it a success. He also performed naturally, had good comic timing, and even pulled off his playback singing in his iconic song, ‘Pani Da Rang’.

5/8

4. Alia Bhatt as Shanaya Singhania in Student of the Year

Alia’s first character Shanaya, was fashionably intelligent, sassy, and oh-so millennial. Alia was not performing a deeply profound character, nor did she need to. In short skirts, designer fits, side eyes, and sassy dialogues - she was a youth icon! The movie had a candyfloss and glossy vibe, but you could not take your eyes off of Alia's screen presence. From glam diva to Gen-Z relatable, it was a fashion/icons debut of major strength.

6/8

5. Anushka Sharma as Taani in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi

Anushka’s role as Taani was all about subtle emotions. A young bride forced into a dull marriage, she finds her voice and love again, but ironically with the same man in disguise. Anushka brought dignity, innocence, and charm to a complex role opposite SRK, which is not an easy task for a newcomer. Her expressions, body language, and restraint won her instant praise. The movie was a grounded, emotionally layered debut in a big YRF-SRK film, and she shone bright.

7/8

6. Ranveer Singh as Bittoo Sharma in Band Baaja Baaraat

As Bittoo Sharma, Ranveer brought unfiltered Delhi-boy energy, being all raw, loud, impulsive, and lovable. His chemistry with co-star Anushka Sharma sizzled, and his performance felt authentic, not acted. The film’s setting in the chaotic world of wedding planning was fresh, and Ranveer's dialogues like “binness kar le, pyaar-vyaar toh side business hai” became iconic. He got praised for his electrifying screen presence and desi charm, which made a star written all over him.

8/8

7. Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda as Krish and Vaani in 'Saiyaara'

This debut couple didn’t just arrive; they collided into Bollywood with Mohit Suri’s emotionally charged musical drama Saiyaara. Ahaan’s portrayal of Krish, a troubled musician grappling with trauma, was raw and vulnerable, while Aneet’s Vaani, a shy poet battling early-onset Alzheimer’s, brought quiet strength and aching fragility. Their chemistry was electric, their performances deeply felt, and the film’s soul-stirring soundtrack amplified every emotion.
