Hrithik Roshan on working with Rajinikanth as a boy: 'He would take the blame if I messed up'
Hrithik Roshan has reflected on one of the earliest and most formative experiences of his life in front of the camera. While appearing at the trailer launch event for the upcoming docu-series 'The Roshans,' the actor spoke about sharing the screen with Rajinikanth in the 1986 thriller 'Bhagwaan Dada.' He credited the legendary star with shaping his confidence as a young performer, noting that Rajinikanth often stepped in protectively whenever a scene became overwhelming for him. The event coverage was highlighted by the media outlets present, which reported on Hrithik’s candid recollections.
Early memories on the set of 'Bhagwaan Dada'
Hrithik was shown a photograph from the film during the conversation, a moment that instantly brought back childhood memories from the set. Recalling his time working with Rajinikanth, he said, “He was quite gentle and generous. When I messed up a shot, Rajni sir used to take the blame so that I would not get conscious as a child.” He explained that this thoughtful approach helped him remain relaxed even when he felt intimidated by the filmmaking environment.
He also shared that his perspective during that period was very different from how he would view the opportunity today. “At that time, I did not know I was working with a legend. For me, he was Rajini uncle,” he said, describing the warmth and familiarity he felt while performing alongside the superstar.
How perspective changes with experience
Reflecting on how his mindset has evolved over the decades, Hrithik noted that working with Rajinikanth again would feel entirely different. “Today if I get a chance to work with him, I will be very different. I will realize the burden that I am sharing screen space with him,” he admitted. The docu-series 'The Roshans,' directed by Shashi Ranjan, is set to premiere on Netflix on January 17, offering viewers a closer look at one of Bollywood’s most renowned film families.
