Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR's 'War 2' targets BIGGEST Hindi release ever; books 5000 screens for Independence Day release

The makers of the much-awaited 'War 2', starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR, are flexing their distribution muscles as they set the audience up for one of the widest Hindi releases in history.

Slated to hit theatres on August 14, the Ayan Mukerji directorial will reportedly hit a staggering 5000 screens across India for its Hindi version alone, a number rarely hit in the industry.

Massive Screen Grab Across India

The release comes with high stakes and high drama, as 'War 2' will go head-to-head with Rajinikanth’s 'Coolie' on the same day. However, reports from the Sacnilk suggest that the Hindi belt is firmly in favour of the Hrithik and Jr. NTR starrer. Reports indicate that YRF has secured nearly 90% of single screens nationwide for the Hindi version, leaving 'Coolie' with a small share. In multiplexes, 'War 2' will command 80–85% of the screens, with exclusive showings in premium formats like IMAX, 4DX, ICE, and Dolby Cinema, ensuring a high-octane viewing experience.

Advance bookings to open with a bang

The distribution dominance extends even into southern states, with limited Hindi release in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Puducherry. Advance bookings for the Hindi version open on August 10, while Telugu and Tamil versions will begin on August 11. In the Telugu states, Hindi bookings will also start on August 11, following official approval for ticket price hikes. Trade experts are predicting one of the biggest openings ever for a Hindi film, with the Independence Day weekend expected to supercharge collections.

CBFC orders audio-visual changes

The journey to release hasn’t been without its roadblocks. According to Bollywood Hungama, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) asked the makers to mute “inappropriate references” in six instances, replace an “obscene” dialogue with a cleaner alternative, and delete a character’s “obscene” gesture.

The movie hits the big screens on August 14, and the expectations are high.
