Honey Singh is gearing up to delve into his controversial life and career in the upcoming documentary 'Yo Yo Honey Singh: Famous,' directed by Mozez Singh. It will be streaming on an OTT platform.
Speaking at an event in Mumbai on Thursday, the Punjabi star candidly discussed the "controversies that happened" in his life and career. Honey Singh expressed that despite being aware of the perceptions being built against him, he opted to remain silent because he lacked the appropriate platform to share his side of the story.
He mentioned that over the span of 12 to 13 years, people had developed perceptions about his work. He acknowledged the controversies that had arisen, including instances of his effigies being burnt, yet he had refrained from addressing them directly. He expressed a desire for a platform, such as a camera and microphone, to share his perspective on the matter.
The singer has found himself embroiled in controversies both in his personal and professional life. Reports have surfaced regarding his struggles with alcoholism and substance abuse. Additionally, his former wife, Shalini Talwar, has accused him of domestic violence.
Honey Singh also mentioned that Netflix provided him with the platform he felt was appropriate for sharing his story. He revealed that three-and-a-half years ago, Netflix expressed interest in creating a documentary about him, with Guneet Monga leading the project. Familiar with Monga's work and passion, and having known her for over a decade, he felt optimistic about the endeavor. Upon speaking with director Mozez Singh, Singh was struck by Singh's sincerity and faith, which instilled a sense of trust in him. Singh believes that through this documentary, audiences will gain insight into who Hirdesh Singh, his official name, truly is, beyond the persona of Yo Yo Honey Singh.
