Many actors in Bollywood have faced immense challenges while finding success in the industry. Many strugglers have gone on to do everything from selling pens to working as electricians. One such struggler who made it into the industry is
Deepak Dobriyal, an actor who has proven to be a powerhouse of talent, became a part of Hindi cinema. Through continuous ups and downs, he continued to put in the effort and be determined for his talent, and today is one of the most sought-after and beloved actors in the industry.
The actor who went against his father’s wishes
Deepak Dobriyal became a household name with his role in ‘
Tanu Weds Manu’, where he played Pappi, Manu’s (R. Madhavan) loyal best friend. His comic timing and earthy charm instantly won audiences’ hearts, and the demand to see more of him grew.
Born in Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand, Deepak’s family moved to Delhi when he was just five. As a child, he regularly performed in Ramlila along with his brother. By the age of 12, he was deeply involved in theatre. However, his father was not in favor of his acting since textbooks were more important. According to India.com, it took an intervention by his uncle before his father allowed him to act.
Deepak joined the theatre group at RLA College and started learning.
With big dreams in his heart, he moved to Mumbai carrying only seven thousand rupees. The city tested him for four years, during which he often bagged small roles—mostly as a servant. But his ability to bring life into even the smallest of characters soon started setting him apart.
Deepak Dobriyal rose to fame for villain roles
While Deepak is loved for his comic brilliance, he has also showcased his darker side on screen. In ‘Bholaa’, starring
Ajay Devgn and Tabu, he played a dreaded villain and mesmerized both audiences and critics with his chilling performance.
Interestingly, he was also seen in ‘Dabangg’ starring Salman Khan. His screen time was very little, but he left a mark as a goon named Genda. He later shared screen space with Ajay Devgn again in the action-comedy film ‘Son of Sardaar’. This was the icing on the cake for his journey in Bollywood.
From comic relief in ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’ to layered roles in films like ‘Omkara’ and ‘Hindi Medium’, Deepak Dobriyal continues to prove his versatility. His journey stands as a testament to persistence, talent, and the spirit of never giving up.
