Though his debut film “Peepli [Live]” did wonders for Omkar Das Manikpuri’s acting career and shot him to instant fame, this theatre actor from Chhattisgarh is still finding it tough to find a foothold in the city of dreams, Mumbai. “When I was shifting base from Chhattisgarh to Mumbai, I met
Aamir Khan and informed him about it. I’m living in a rented house in Mumbai. Though I have several acting assignments in hand, I still don’t have enough money to buy a house for myself,” says the affable Omkar.
So, didn’t Aamir Khan offer to help him? “No, he didn’t,” replies Omkar and continues, “But I’m not complaining. He’s the one who has given me an opportunity to make a name for myself in the film industry and it’s because of him that I have got so many film offers after “Peepli [Live]”. Hopefully, I’ll be able to earn some money in the future.”
He adds, “After “Peepli [Live]”, people call me Natha and not Omkar. And I don’t mind it at all. In fact, it’s an achievement of sorts for me. Like after “Sholay”, people always addressed Amjad Khan as Gabbar. So, I’m really happy that I could achieve something like that. Omkar was in town to attend a function organized by the ruling party of the state for completing four years in office.
“I’m really honoured that the UP CM invited me for this function,” he says, adding, “After the recent assembly poll results in several states of the country, it’s great to see that so many women chief ministers are heading Indian states, perhaps for the first time in the country’s history. I believe that nari bina duniya nahin chal sakti and nari shakti is the supreme power after God. Hats off to all the women who are making a mark in society. They are inspiring and encouraging other women to follow their in their footsteps, which is even better.”
As of now, Omkar is looking forward to his second release. “I have completed shooting for “Aalaap” and it will be released soon. I’m also working on some other projects like “Kasam Se Kasam Se” in which I’m playing a character role and then there’s “Munna Mange Memsaab”, in which I’m playing the lead role,” says Omkar.
