Harsh Chhaya (TOI Photo) More picsActor Harsh Chhayas versatility cannot be questioned. Today, he is thoroughly excited about his character of a gay designer in Madhur Bhandarkars forthcoming film Fashion. How did Harsh end up getting the role? The actor admits, You know how people say that getting the role was easy?
But, this was very difficult! Because I was not even close to the character, Madhur wasnt sure whether Id do justice to it.
I screen tested myself and showed the DVD to him. He really liked it, and now Im playing the character.
The actor was seen recently as a gangster in Mithya. How was his experience working with some fine actors like Ranvir Shorey and Vinay Pathak?
I always look at doing something which is dissimilar from my roles before. In Mithya, I play a gangster, and I havent really been a gangster in any movie. If you have a particular image, not many people want to look at you beyond your general image of either a good character or a bad one. Shooting for Mithya was a wonderful experience. The cast knew their job, he explains.
Talking about being able to portray different characters, Laaga Chunari Mein Daag saw Harsh in a character with lots of grey shades. Is it better than playing Mr Nice Guy?
Variations in a character make the performance interesting. When I played a casting couch boss, it was a different experience. If someone cannot get into the skin of different characters, then whats the point of him being an actor? Laaga... was different from Corporate and so was Mithya. To prove yourself as an actor, it is important to look at the portfolio and see the different kinds of work one has done, asserts he.
The actor has been seen in all kinds of films recently. Apart from Fashion, what else is he working on? Im shooting for My Friend Ganesha 2 where I play a seven-year-olds father. I have also signed a film which is co-directed by Sunny Deol. I cant talk much about the role, but it is pretty interesting, declares Harsh.
Since Harsh has his hands full as of now, what does the future look like? I wish the future was in my hands. I do wish to get into direction, but I dont know how far Ill go. If I am able to get a financier, then maybe Ill come up with a movie. But, till then, its just work.
If good actors like Harsh get into direction, the industry might get to see some interesting movies. Hopefully, his ambition will yield results, and pretty soon as well.
