Harman Baweja exudes and easy charm. The nonchalance is reflected when you ask him about Love Story 2050, the release of which was caught in controversy, clashing as it was with Aamir Khan's
Jaane Tu...ya jaane na.
Talking about it, he says, "Controversies are part and parcel of our profession and those who are involved are immune to them. We remain unaffected as we are aware of the truth." So is there truth in the reports that he spoke to Aamir to clear the air?
He says, "I did speak to him as I have immense respect for him as a professional and an individual." Any words for Imran? "I don't know him but I do wish him success with every film he does in the future," he says.
The party's onWith no less than five big league directors signing Harman for their films, the party has just begun. He says, "As an actor I am very happy and upbeat to win the confidence of filmmakers like Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Ashutosh Gowariker, Ajit Pal, Manmohan Shetty, Boney Kapoor and Anees Bazmee. But yes, I do feel the pressure as expectations from me heighten." Talking of expectations, there was a lot riding on his first film, so how is he handling the outcome? "I am a calm person. But, when it comes to the release of your film, it's natural to be on pins and needles or anything pokey on earth (laughs)! After all, months or years of hard work is finally put to test," he says.
E-love and HarmanHarman's first film is a futuristic love story loaded with hi-tech special effects. The actor himself is very tech friendly. "Gizmos and gadgets are a part of my life. Even my water bottle has a timer, it starts beeping when the water is not drunk till a given period," he quips. Veering back to his film, ask him about Priyanka Chopra and he says that she is a perfect co-star and a great friend. So what about love in the times of technology and he says, "Love is the basis of our existence. The feelings associated with love will always remain the same. The ways of proposing may change. A guy might propose to his girlfriend with digital flowers and in a room that has an ambience of a romantic garden."
Laughter and tearsDebuts were once occasions when stars would hide under burqas to watch their film. Ask Harman if the romance of this adventure is lost in these days of media blitzkrieg and he answers, "I am traditional by nature, so I did get a taste of this adventure. Not a burqa, I wore a cap and stood in a corner of the theatre. It was an enthralling experience to see the reaction of the audience over my dance and their excitement over my entry. It was heartwarming and brought tears to my eyes."
Shooting for his first film would have been fun, especially with good friend Priyanka Chopra around? Is there any incident he would like to recount? Harman says, "There was one dialogue, where Priyanka had to say 'Mr. Malhotra, you wait right here, you will be kissed shortly.' Instead she said 'Mr Baweja, you wait right here, you will be kissed shortly.' Everybody laughed till they got tears in their eyes. And Priyanka was embarrassed since dad was right there!"
Chilling outThe actor was pursuing hotel management before he forayed into acting but says that he was subconsciously working towards becoming an actor. "Even in school, I used to take part in fancy dress competitions, elocutions, skits etc, which all helped me to become an actor." Now, with his schedule packed, does he find time to indulge or unwind? He says, "I don't party much. So my method of unwinding is spending time with my family, going to a friend's house or just listening to music."
