Hansal's tribute to slain lawyer Azmi

Anurag Kashyap and Sunil Bohra are coming together to bring the controversial life of lawyer Shahid Azmi to celluloid. While Kashyap and Bohra will be producing the film, Hansal Mehta will don the director’s cap.
The film already 50% complete will have Rajkumar Yadav of Love Sex Aur Dhokha and Ragini MMS fame to play the lead. The actor has been styled to look just like the slain lawyer.
The lawyer, who spent a part of his life behind bars and the rest of it fighting for the rights of captured militants, was shot dead in his office in February 2010. About the case, Bohra said, “I don’t know much about the case or what exactly happened. I just heard the story from Hansal and liked it. It’s a human, inspirational story.”
For Hansal Mehta, this is just an attempt to make an honest film in today’s world of “hatred and distress”. “The only way to make my voice count is by making an inspirational film. Fortunately, I found people like Sunil and Anurag who believed in what I did. I would say that this is the most honest film I’m making since Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar,” said the director.
Though based on the life of Azmi, the filmmakers are taking creative liberties and “fictionalizing the story for cinematic purpose.” Said Mehta, “The protagonist, played by Rajkumar Yadav, is a noble character. I am making the film in the format that I know best—an exciting thriller.”
