Halloween time for BT

It’s Halloween at the 16th BT Anniversary Party tomorrow night...
In case you missed her column in TOI on Monday, we quote Shobhaa De, “Now for the big news: Bombay Times turns 16 over the Halloween weekend and every witch in town is getting that broom ready to zoom into the Taj and create havoc. Fortunately, most invitees, especially the society ladies, won’t have to try too hard.They look and behave the part perfectly. As for costumes, darling... why not raid your own horrific wardrobes and scare the daylights out of the unwary? Trick or treat, anybody?”
Yup, the theme for the 16th BT Anniversary Bash, that most anticipated party of the year, is Halloween. And it’s being held tomorrow, October 29, at the Taj Mahal Palace & Tower, Colaba. Is there anyone who doesn’t fall for the intriguing and seductive mix of sweet and sinful? Well, at Sweet 16 we discovered a wicked streak in us! And we’re calling all those who made our exclusive guest list, the Who’s Who of Mumbai, to reveal their dark sides and haunt the venue as werewolves, ghosts, vampires, monsters, pirates, skeletons, zombies and other spooks.
Former Miss India and Bollywood cutie Dia Mirza, as innocent Sabrina the Witch, is ready to soar the scare meter. “The theme is fun! It brings out a dark side that allows the alter ego to surface,” says the saucy girl. Even the Vampire is ready to taste blood. Neil Nitin Mukesh says, “I’m thinking in terms of Dracula.” But Alyque Padamsee has decided to give Dracula a run by dressing up as the Devil. Hidden by masks, covered in cloaks, or as themselves? Though a fancy avatar is a must. Mothball your regular party togs, be morbid, go evil, or you might find the gates to this orgy in hell shut to you tomorrow night. International Halloween trends suggest that revelers dressed as politicians are a hit. Or terrorists. So, top favourites and Osama Bin Laden and, well, George Bush. But Hitler’s not far behind. And the Joker and the Riddler are running a different race. While the Catwoman sharpens her claws and the Pirate of the Caribbean, his sword.
Mumbai costume shop owners reveal that people are also dressing up as their international screen, pop and sport icons. From Michael Jackson and Marilyn Monroe to WWE wrestler The Undertaker, Mumbaikars are ready to outdo any other city in the celebration of blood and gore.
