'Had to be on my toes while working with Govinda,' says Karisma Kapoor, reveals what she learnt from Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan
Karisma Kapoor is considered one of the top actresses from the 90s who has given a long list of memorable movies, roles, songs and worked with some of the biggest stars. The actress recently looked back on her glorious career that featured blockbusters like 'Dil To Pagal Hai', 'Raja Hindustani', 'Hum Saath Saath Hain' and 'Hero No 1', 'Raja Babu', 'Biwi No 1' among many more. Karisma formed a great chemistry with most of the co-stars and has worked with all the Khans. Not to mention, her dance numbers with Govinda were a rage then and continue to remain iconic even today.
At a Ladies Study Group event, the actor reminisced about that time and said, “I feel very lucky to have worked with all the Khans in various films. We were all young and sort of coming up during the same time. All actors, including Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and even Govinda, are very different from each other. I tried to take something from each of them and apply it to my art.”
She went on to explain how working with her co-stars shaped her craft: “In the case of Aamir, he is very particular about what he does. He’ll do multiple rehearsals. Salman is the complete opposite of that, and he will just come on the set, do something, and it will be fantastic. With Shah Rukh, he is extremely helpful and very caring towards the co-star. These are the kind of things that I would pick up from them. Govinda, for instance, was an incredible dancer, and slowly I learnt to keep up with him. He was so fantastic, and I had to be on my toes all the time.”
Speaking about Govinda in particular, Karisma recalled how she had admired him long before they became frequent co-stars. “I was a huge fan of Chi-Chi from the time he was in the film ‘Khudgarz’, where he is dancing with Neelam Kothari in the mountains. I remember telling my mom about a stage performance he was doing at the Shanmukhananda Hall with Neelam. I told her, ‘You have to take me there.’ I saw him, and I was completely awestruck. He came to me and said, ‘You’re a very special girl, and something amazing will happen to you in your life.’ I thanked him, and I had no idea that I would go on to do so many movies and dance hits with him.”
Apart from her work, Karisma has been in the news lately also as her ex-husband Sunjay Kapur passed away.
