Guru Nanak Jayanti: Mika Singh records his first Gurbani Shabad

The singer talks about the landmark year of the festival
It’s Guru Purab today, which marks 550 years of Sikhism, too. It’s the birth anniversary of

Guru Nanak

Dev, the first Sikh Guru. On the auspicious day, singer Mika Singh has organised a three day Akhand Paath at his residence in Delhi, followed by a langar on November 14. Talking about the festival and underlining its importance in the lives of hoards of Sikhs across the globe, Mika says, “Aaj ka din hamare liye bahut bada hai. Prakash Diwas is another name for it. While we have a paath at home every year on this day, this year we are having a three-day Akhand paath in our house in Delhi followed by a langar on the 14th. I have also recorded my first

Gurbani

shabad which will come out soon. Our Guru was born in what is today's Pakistan. Tab yeh lakeerein nahi thi. Langar is something Guruji had started when his father gave him money to do some business. Instead, he went out and fed those who were hungry. When his father asked him what he did with the money, Guruji said 'Main ta saccha sauda karke aaya hoon' That became a part of our culture, which is an amalgamation of all the leanings across all the important scriptures.” Talking about the newly-opened Kartarpur corridor between Pakistan and India, Mika said, “The best thing is the opening of the Kartarpur corridor which has happened after a long wait. It has taken years but now, anyone can visit gurudwaras like

Nankana Sahib

, Panja Sahib and Kartarpur Sahib, which are among the oldest.”
