Though both parties are tightlipped, the job of remaking Feroz Khans 1980 blockbuster Qurbani has apparently fallen on Sanjay Gupta. Khan, who had grand plans of casting his son Fardeen and Saif Ali Khan in the roles originally played by himself and Vinod Khanna, is reportedly very ill. But he wants to remake Qurbani nevertheless. And, according to a source, if Gupta hadnt come forward to take on the responsibility, the project would have gone into the cold storage.Gupta is a die-hard Feroz Khan fan and this is his way of paying tribute to the cinema of 1980s that he has always admired.
But Khan was so moved by Guptas enthusiasm that he decided to produce the new Qurbani jointly with him. At the moment, Fardeen is slated to step into his fathers role. The stars to play Vinods, Zeenat Amans and Amjad Khans roles have yet to be decided. Gupta was faced with the choice of casting Vinods and Amjads sons, but found the idea too gimmicky, and will not play around with his homage to the hit film and its flamboyant maker. But what is likely is that Mallika Sherawat will play Zeenats role. And some of Qurbanis original music by Kalyanji-Anandji and Biddu, including Aap Jaisa Koi Meri Zindagi Mein Aaye, will be retained.
