Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Black tells the story of a deaf and blind woman Michelle and her equation with her teacher Debraj who later develops Alzheimer’s disease. From Amitabh Bachchan to Rani Mukerji to Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the film is masterclass on acting, direction, screenplay, camerwork etc. In fact Amitabh Bachchan didn't charge a single penny for the film as he felt just working with Bhansali was enough for him.

Has there been a love story better or beyond DDLJ in the last 30 years? The film is still running in the theaters and has a loyal fanbase who still make it a point and view the film on the big screen. DDLJ changed the path of everyone involved, Shah Rukh Khan became the King of romance and Kajol went on to become the heartbeat of the nation and director Aditya Chopra and his father Yash Chopra went to establish Yash Raj Films as one of the biggest studios in the country in the next decade. This movie opened the NRI audiences for Hindi cinema. Till date DDLJ is the template for how a romantic Hindi film hero should behave and how rooted Indian values define Indian cinema.

Devdas: 10 Awards

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas was probably the most extravagant depiction of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhayay’s book by the same name. Bhansali gave the film colour, glamour, performance and music. The film had very high expectations and it delivered at the box office, it was also premiered at the Cannes Film Festival with Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Shah Rukh at one point also revealed that he would on purpose get drunk on the sets to get into the character of Devdas.

Madhumati: 9 awards

Madhumati was the most successful film at Filmfare for nearly 36 years till DDLJ came and got 10 awards. The film starred Dilip Kumar and Vyjayanthimala in lead roles and was directed by Bimal Roy. This paranormal romance film captured the imagination of the audience when it was released back in 1958. In fact the music of the film was the best-selling album of the year with the song Suhana Safar Aur Yeh Mausam Haseen still considered a hit.
