Director Anurag Kashyap’s engaging drama about the struggle for democratic power, “Gulaal”, had showcased political give and take, bloodshed besides election rigging. The movie not only had diverse ingredients, but was also an attempt to bring fore the changing student political scenario of Jaipur.
Now after more than a year of movie’s release, University of Rajasthan, Jaipur, is again witnessing polls after a long gap of six years. University polls were banned by the High Court owing to a writ. And now the buzz is that Kashyap is keen on making “Gulaal 2”. Sources say that the outspoken director, who co-authored the script of “Gulaal”, is planning a visit to Jaipur to grasp as much as he can. “Anurag is always keen on making films inspired by reality. And when he got to know about University of Rajasthan elections in Jaipur, he started working on it,” says a source close to the director. When contacted,
Kay Kay Menon, who played Dukki Bana in the film, the one who spearheaded the political movement, said, “It’s a good idea because Anurag was looking for more such plots.” However, he denied any knowledge about Anurag’s Jaipur visit. “I would love to do “Gulaal 2” as Dukki’s character has always been close to my heart,” added Kay Kay.
Though, it’s still not clear whether the movie will be Gulaal’s sequel, but sources hinted that it depends on the way this year’s elections go. From police’s involvement to university’s role, the movie will focus on various aspects that make for a reality of students politics. It’s touted that Anurag plans to bring out the link between political parties and student organizations. Despite several phone calls and SMS, Anurag did not respond.
Sources further hinted that besides deceit, corruption and the deep-rooted nexus of politicians, there’s going to be a love angle in the movie. Also, there are going to be some terrific stunts. It’s possible that we might soon see Anurag in Jaipur to shoot for the sequel!
