The marriage of Bollywood actor Govinda and his wife, Sunita Ahuja was back under the scanner this weekend after news reports claimed that the two were in the middle of a divorce battle.
Citing court documents, the news reports alleged that the couple who have been married for 38 years, have parted ways. Amidst the chatter and buzz about a divorce proceeding currently underway, the actor’s lawyer has come forward to comment on the viral reports and rumours.

Speaking to NDTV, Govinda’s lawyer Lalit Bindra, rubbished the reports and dismissed the allegations, stating, “Koi case nahi sab settle ho raha hai, ye sab log purani cheezen utha ke daal rahe hain, (There is no case, everything is being settled, people are just bringing up old matters.)"

A family source went on to tell the portal, “Abhi
Ganesh Chaturthi aayega, aapko sab saath mein nazar aayenge, aap ghar aaiyega (This Ganesh Chaturthi, you will see everyone together, you should come home.)"
Family friend denies rumours
Speaking to ETimes, Govinda's close friend also rubbished the rumours of the couple calling it quits. "They have been married for 38 years. Like all couples, they have their ups and downs. Tell me, which couple doesn’t have their differences?" the firend ased and went on to assert, “Govinda would never leave Sunita."
Opening up about the bond that the two share, the fried added, "He (Govinda) will be finished without her. She anchors him, controls his moods. Without her, he will be lost. Even if matters have gone to court- and I am not saying, they have - the couple will sort out their differences, as they always do."
What court documents say
News of the couple parting ways spread after Hauterrfly allegedly accessed documents which stated that Sunita filed for divorce in the Bandra Family Court on December 5, 2024. She cited 'adultery, cruelty, and desertion' under Section 13 (1)(i), (ia), and (ib) of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955. The court summoned Govinda, who only responded after a notice to show cause was issued in May 2025.
The report claimed that since June 2025, the couple has reportedly been attending court-mandated counselling. While Sunita has appeared in person, it remains unclear whether Govinda has joined sessions virtually.
Why Sunita lived separately
Adding to the confusion, Sunita previously explained that the two began living apart years ago due to Govinda’s political career. With party workers frequently visiting their home, she felt the family’s privacy was compromised. “Alag-alag rehte hain matlab jab unhone politics join kiya tha tab meri beti jawaan ho rahi thi, toh saare karyakarta ghar par aate the. Ab jawaan beti hai, hum hain, hum shorts pehen ke ghar mein ghoomte hain, toh isliye humne saamne office le liya tha,” she said, explaining that she and her daughter shifted to a separate space while Govinda used an office nearby.
Sunita on Divorce Rumours
Back in February 2025, when asked about the ongoing speculation about her marriage, Sunita strongly dismissed it. Speaking to the paparazzi, she said, “Humko, mujhe aur Govinda ko is duniya mein agar koi alag kar de, kisi ka maai ka laal toh saamne aa jaye” (“If anyone in this world dares to separate me and Govinda, let them come forward”).
