Govinda and Sunita Ahuja have been married since 1987 and the latter recently grabbed attention with her light-hearted yet pointed remarks about husband Govinda during her appearance on the cooking-based reality show Laughter Chefs.
While interacting with her nephew
Krushna Abhishek and his wife Kashmera Shah, Sunita made a witty comment that quickly caught the audience’s attention.
Reference to Govinda gun accident
Sunita Ahuja referred to the widely discussed October 2024 incident in which Govinda accidentally shot himself in the leg while handling his licensed revolver. She said, “Apni biwi ki respect karta hai, woh zindagi bhar jo hero hota hai na, phir woh aankhiyon se goli maarta hai, jahan third party mein chalaata hai, o ghutnon pe goli maare,” (“He respects his wife that’s what a true hero does all his life. Otherwise, he shoots with his eyes, but when it comes to a third party, he ends up firing at the knees.”) adding a humorous twist inspired by his popular track “Akhiyon Se Goli Maare.”
What happened in 2024
The reference was linked to an incident that took place on October 1, 2024, at Juhu, Mumbai. Govinda accidentally injured himself early in the morning, between 4 and 4:45 AM, while handling his licensed revolver before leaving for a trip.
Reports indicated that the firearm slipped from his hand and discharged, with the bullet striking his leg near the knee. He was immediately taken to a hospital in Andheri West, where doctors removed the bullet and kept him under ICU observation. Despite significant blood loss, the injury was not life-threatening, and he was later discharged after treatment.
Initial speculation suggested possible foul play. However, family members later clarified that it was an accidental mishap during routine handling, with no external involvement.
On the professional front, Govinda was last seen in a lead role in 'Rangeela Raja', directed by
Sikander Bharti. Before that, he appeared in 'FryDay' and 'Aa Gaya Hero'.
