MUMBAI: Noted filmmaker
Anurag Kashyap’s latest directorial venture 'Gangs of Wasseypur' will premiere in the Directors Fortnight section of the 65th Cannes Film Festival, which will be held in the second week of May.
Directors Fortnight is a non-competitive section at the Cannes Film Festival. Since its inception, it has showcased the first films of Werner Herzog, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Nagisa Oshima, George Lucas, Martin Scorsese and Ken Loach.
Apart from GOW which has been made in two parts, the third film 'Peddlers' will also be screened at the festival. "Three of our films; Peddlers, Gangs Of Wasseypur (I & II) at Cannes Film Festival. "HUGE MOMENT OF PRIDE FOR US!" Kashyap tweeted after the official announcement of the line-up of the films.
Kashyap is considered to be the pioneer of new age cinema in India. Most of his films including 'The Girl In Yellow Boots', 'Paanch', Dev D, 'No Smoking' and 'Black Friday' have travelled to almost all international film festivals of the world. He has also been on the jury of Venice Film Festival.
