This weekend, due to G20 Summit security restrictions on September 8-10, cinemas in
New Delhi district will be shut. Additionally, expecting traffic issues due to security measures, many cinemas in other parts of NCR have added early morning (as early as 7.40am) and late night shows.
A source from a cinema chain says, “There is no official communication about the closing of cinemas, as cinemas have been asked not to publicise it.
However, it is only in the New Delhi district where cinemas have been instructed not to schedule any shows. Apart from that district, cinemas across the NCR will have shows as usual.”
Another source adds, “Whether people will turn up for movies this weekend is a big question. Due to traffic restrictions, people may avoid going out, so whether cinemas are closed or not, most moviegoers may not visit them. But as these days are holidays, we are hoping people will turn up, and keeping that in mind, shows have been scheduled from early morning to late at night.”
Amit Sharma, MD Miraj Entertainment Ltd. says, "We (Miraj Entertainment Ltd.) did not receive any circular from the government to close the cinema. Besides, the 9th is the second Saturday, the 10th is a holiday, and on the 8th, all offices are closed. I feel probably that can help movies as it becomes a forceful holiday, and that can yield better results."
