Future is now

As his superhero movie hits the screen, director Goldie Behl tells TOI that he will continue making such films.
Future is now
I havent seen Haatim Tai, though I know the story, and that the film was a hit.
Likewise, my film is a part of our Indian culture. But, it is a completely contemporary take, says director Goldie Behl, when asked about his film that is releasing today.
So, where did he look for inspiration?
I looked at a lot of Indian comic books, Western graphic novels and Japanese comic books for inspiration.
1x1 polls
The film caters to the young people of the country. While trying to show a contemporary story, Ive also tried to maintain the Indianess of the film. Considering the fact that he and Abhishek Bachchan are childhood friends, it must have been smooth sailing while making the film. I think we are naturally in tune with each others thoughts on a sub-conscious level, says the director.
But, he maintains that the people who made the film happen were his and Abhisheks nieces and nephews!
They are the future and they are the kind of audience we want to target. After they approved it, we went ahead with the film. It is a simple story, which is easy to communicate. This gave us more space on execution and innovation. The film has some heavy-duty special effects.
The special effects have taken the longest amount of time. We had David Bush, who did the visual effects for Armageddon, working with us on the film, he tells us.

Is he hoping to match the standards of The Mummy or Pirates Of The Caribbean? Not even one-tenth, he replies. I have tried to make this film at par with world standards. The people from Eros and Rose Movies have given me a huge amount of support in every possible way. What reaction is he expecting from the audience? I want them to come, enjoy and have a good time. The audience will notice the detailing that has gone into the film. It is something new and fresh.
When asked about his future plans, he cheerfully replies, I would love to go ahead and make another visual effects picture. A sequel seems natural, but there is still so much to explore. Why should the Americans keep saving the world? Its time for the Indians to step in, he laughs.
It remains to be seen what the audience thinks of this new saviour!
