Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Black’ remains a milestone in portraying disability on screen. Inspired by the life of American author Helen Keller, the film follows Michelle (Rani Mukerji), a blind and deaf girl, and her mentor Debraj (Amitabh Bachchan), who later develops Alzheimer’s disease. Through patience, determination, and unwavering guidance, Michelle becomes self-reliant, graduating from college in a memorable scene that embodies triumph. Watching the roles reverse as Michelle helps Debraj later is deeply moving, reinforcing the message that perseverance pays off.

‘Hichki’ features Rani Mukerji as Naina Mathur, a teacher with Tourette Syndrome, who refuses to let her condition define her career. Iqbal

Nagesh Kukoonoor’s ‘Iqbal’, a National Award-winning film, tells the story of a hearing- and speech-impaired village boy (Shreyas Talpade) with a passion for cricket. Guided by a retired alcoholic cricketer (Naseeruddin Shah), Iqbal trains with buffaloes as fielders and eventually earns a place on India’s cricket team. The film celebrates talent, hope, and determination, proving that challenges cannot stop a dream fueled by hard work and dedication.
