From Ranbir Kapoor-Alia Bhatt’s ‘Brahmastra’ to Prabhas’ ‘Baahubali’: Bollywood films that celebrate Lord Shiva

Religion and deities have always been a part of Bollywood films in some or the other way. Whether it is a film inspired by a mythological story or one showing the actors as a hard-core devotee, Bollywood has always found a way to include them in the narrative.

From amongst the popular deities, Lord Shiva has been one of the most loved deities of the Bollywood celebs. Their devotion to the Lord has inspired them to be part of films that gave a tribute to the various shades of Shiva.

From Ranbir Kapoor-Alia Bhatt’s ‘Brahmastra’ to Sara Ali Khan-Sushant Singh Rajput’s ‘Kedarnath to Prabhas’ ‘Baahubali’, here is a rundown of Bollywood films that celebrate Lord Shiva.

‘Brahmastra’

Ayan Mukerji’s upcoming fantasy-drama, ‘Brahmastra’ starring Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt is one of the most awaited films of the year. Ranbir will reportedly be playing a character named ‘Shiva’ in the film who will be possessing some special powers in the movie.

‘Brahmastra’ is a weapon of Hindu God Brahma, who is called the creator of the universe. The weapon is considered lethal and like its namesake, the film’s title refers to “ancient wisdom, energies, and power”.

The makers of the film revealed the film’s logo in the most unique way possible using drones at the popular Kumbh Mela on the auspicious occasion of Mahashivratri.

‘Baahubali’

Actor Prabhas plays the role of a man named Shiva who grows up to be a great devotee of Lord Shiva. The scene of him carrying the Shivalinga on his broad shoulders is still etched in the memory of the fans.

The film also has a song ‘Kaun Hai Vo’ dedicated to Lord Shiva which plays during the time Prabhas carries the idol of the deity.

‘Kedarnath’

Abhishek Kapoor's ‘Kedarnath’ was based on the Uttarakhand floods of 2013. The film starred Sushant Singh Rajput and Sara Ali Khan in the lead roles. Sushant played the character of Mansoor who represented the selfless, pure and benevolent nature of Lord Shiva.

A staunch Shiva devotee, Abhishek Kapoor paid his tribute to Lord Shiva through this film. His message through the film is that when you serve another human being, then Shiva resides in you.

‘Shivaay’

Film ‘Shivaay’ was one of the most ambitious projects of actor Ajay Devgn. He played the role of a mountaineer named Shivaay in the movie. The film was symbolic of Lord Shiva as the destroyer of all evil.

The actor, who is one of the biggest devotees of Lord Shiva, also dedicated a song for the destroyer of evil in the movie. The song titled, ‘Bolo Har Har Har’ is one of the most popular songs of Lord Shiva we have in Bollywood.

‘Satellite Shankar’

After his stint in ‘Hero’ with Athiya Shetty, Sooraj Pancholi made a comeback on the big screen with ‘Satellite Shankar’. In the film, he plays an army man who has his heart in the right place.
