From 'Lakshya' to 'Fighter': A look at Hrithik Roshan's most patriotic characters

While Hrithik Roshan's skills as a dancer and his ability to captivate audiences are well known, he has also successfully demonstrated several uplifting portrayals of an Indian hero in what would be considered regional films that respect India and its ways. Hrithik's characterizations of a soldier, a spy and a visionary teacher all show the respectable aspects of the modern Indian hero in each character — strong, principled and emotional.

2/7

'War' (2019)

Hrithik's Kabir is an elite agent operating for R&AW and is engaged in covert missions, traveling the world to keep India safe from threats both external and internal. War offers amazing stunts, visuals, brutal double-crossing, and all of the machine smooth espionage elements. While is a hand-in-glove popcorn action film, it is also more than that; it is also a story about loyalty, sacrifice, and strategy; the choices Kabir makes fundamentally capture the moral ambiguity of modern warfare. 'War' is a stylish and intelligent addition to the patriotic genre.

3/7

'Super 30' (2019)

In this biographical feature, Hrithik plays Anand Kumar, a mathematician who commits his life to teaching, tutoring, and coaching underprivileged students for the IIT entrance exam. As a biopic, Super 30 is a tribute to education as an equalizer and tool of empowerment, both individual and national. Hrithik sheds his star persona to portray an individual called to purpose, transforming Super 30 into a dark but rapid readymade homage to bottom-up patriotism.

4/7

'Jodhaa Akbar' (2008)

Roshan plays Emperor Akbar and offers a performance that is both graceful and somehow authoritative, an important ruler who promoted religious harmony in Medieval India. Although the film isn’t explicitly patriotic in the traditional sense, it does celebrate Indian pluralism and suggests ways toward a shared future. Akbar and Jodhaa's relationship becomes a symbol of unity, tolerance, and progressive governance.

5/7

'Mission Kashmir' (2000)

Hrithik provides a rich performance as Altaaf, a young man adopted by the police officer who killed his parents, caught between love and revenge as a pawn in a broader political struggle. Set amidst Kashmir's turmoil, the film examines identity, trauma and reconciliation. Hrithik explores the emotional experience of a person wondering what it means to be in and from two places.

6/7

'Lakshya' (2004)

In Lakshya, a coming-of-age war film, Hrithik plays Karan Shergill, a rich and immature youth and, ultimately the disciplined army officer he ends up being. The film takes place during the Kargil War showing Karan's emotional and physical transformation leading him to lead an amazing assault through the mountains. Hrithik's subtle performance reveals a struggle to figure out how to find not only meaning but also pride in serving his country.

7/7

'Fighter' (2024)

Patty, played by Hrithik, is a fearless Indian Air Force officer who is skilled at aerial combat and motivated by a constant sense of duty. By fusing heart-pounding dogfights with moments of sacrifice, patriotism, and camaraderie, 'Fighter' immerses viewers in the high-stakes world of air conflicts. The movie, which is set against a backdrop of growing external threats, highlights Patty's bravery as he guides his team through dangerous missions that call for both tactical skill and compassion. ' Fighter' is a tribute to the bravery, devotion, and unwavering spirit of India's air warriors, even though it is full of heart-pounding stunts and stunning sights.
