From Comedy to Courage: Neena Gupta's must-watch performances on OTT platforms

Indian actress Neena Gupta has always shown a great deal of versatility and bravery in her work. Regarding her seasoned craft, she is renowned for her bold choice of roles, accurate delivery of dialogue with a dash of charm, and sincere acting. She effortlessly wins over the hearts of all audiences, regardless of age. Her body of work spans several decades and includes a variety of recently discovered media platforms, such as OTT platforms, which have gained popularity because of their uniqueness. Here are some of her best works:

2/6

'Shubh Mangal Zyada Savdhan'

As Sunaina Tripathi, an orthodox mother struggling with her son's same-sex relationship, Neena Gupta adds warmth and humor to the movie. The role played by Ayushmann Khurrana in the movie Shubh Mangal The topic of LGBTQ acceptance in a traditional Indian family context is discussed by Zyada Saavdhan. Her performance shows to us how challenging it can be for a woman to balance her maternal nature with societal expectations. She and Gajraj Rao, who portrays her husband, make a charming couple who perfectly complement one another on both an emotional and comedic level.

3/6

'Masaba Masaba'

In this semi-autobiographical series, Neena Gupta co-stars with her real-life daughter, designer Masaba Gupta. With a new sense of humor, it explores their personal and professional lives. Neena Gupta, who plays Masaba's mother in the show, is frequently presented as a certainly funny and self-reliant grandmother who provides her with emotional support while stealing the show with her incisive and poignant dialogue. Their relationship, which is highlighted throughout the episodes, serves as further evidence of how beauty connects with the significant challenges of aging dynamics, changing relationships, and redefining one's role in life.

4/6

'Mulk'

The compelling courtroom drama involving religious prejudice and national identity is presented by Neena Gupta's character, Tabassum Mohammed, who plays the wife of Murad Ali Mohammed (Rishi Kapoor). Deeply examining them in single-frame cinematography, Guptaji shines every second, surpassing the typical portrayal of mothers from society who are beaten in silence, frustrated, and caught in chains, family, and struggle. Justice unfairly goes unspoken, but her pain goes unacknowledged as she looks for answers.

5/6

'The Last Color'

The Last Color, a moving drama set in Varanasi, was directed by Michelin-starred chef Vikas Khanna. Neena Gupta portrays Noor, a widow who is prohibited from celebrating Holi due to conventional customs. Her relationship with a young child named Chhoti turns into a powerful representation of change, freedom, and hope. Gupta received a lot of praise for her powerful but restrained performance. For fans of ethical cinema, this film is a must-see because it exposes social stigmas and questions the status quo. It's a brilliant illustration of her ability to delicately and elegantly express intense emotion.

6/6

'Dial 100'

In this gripping thriller that lasts all night, Neena Gupta co-stars with Sakshi Tanwar and Manoj Bajpayee. Neena plays a grieving mother who has lost everything in the search for justice or revenge and is driven to drastic lengths. Her portrayal of the struggle of a woman behind the wheel of agony is both captivating and unsettling. Neena shows off her amazing range as an actor by putting the audience in an awful and angry world, departing greatly from her cozy and humorous roles.
