From Baaghi to Ballot Nagma’s untold journey beyond stardom

Born as Nandita Arvind Morarji, Nagma comes from a family linked to both business and cinema. Her stepfather is film producer Chander Sadanah, and she is the half-sister of Tamil actress Jyothika. Despite her glamorous screen presence, her background was rooted in strong cultural and political ties.

While she started with the hit Baaghi opposite Salman Khan in 1990, Nagma’s true stardom came in South Indian cinema. She became a leading actress in Tamil and Telugu films, starring in blockbusters like Baashha with Rajinikanth and Kadhalan with Prabhu Deva. She also acted in Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, Marathi, and Bhojpuri films, showcasing rare linguistic versatility.

In the mid-2000s, Nagma turned inward and embraced Christian spirituality. She began attending church regularly and even studied theology. She has openly spoken about how her faith helped her cope with heartbreak, loneliness, and the pressures of fame.

Nagma made a surprising shift to politics, first with BJP, later joining Congress, where she became a General Secretary in Uttar Pradesh. Though she faced challenges, she remained a strong voice on women’s rights, secularism, and social justice.

Nagma’s rumored relationship with cricketer Sourav Ganguly was widely reported but never officially confirmed. The alleged affair ended under intense scrutiny. She once hinted at it in interviews, saying, “Some stories are better left untold,” leaving behind a trail of unanswered curiosity.
