From Anushka Sharma-Virat Kohli to Shah Rukh Khan-Gauri Khan, celebs who did their best to keep their kids away from media glare

With pictures of Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli's daughter Vamika going viral on the internet, the internet is abuzz discussing whether it is ethical for paparazzi to click pictures of star kids without their parents' consent. The star couple has tried their best to protect their child and time and again requested the media to respect their privacy. And there have been several such instances in the past where celebs did all they can to keep their kids away from the media glare. Let's take a look.

Anuskha Sharma-Virat Kohli

Shortly after the birth of Vamika in January 2021, the couple had appealed to the paparazzi to refrain from clicking her pictures. Anushka and Virat even sent a note to the paparazzi fraternity that read, "Hi, Thank you for all the love that you have given us for all these years. We are happy to celebrate this momentous occasion with you. As parents, we have a simple request to make to you. We want to protect the privacy of our child and we need your help and support."

Last year, they had revealed why they wanted the paparazzi not to publish pictures or videos of their baby girl. In an Instagram post, Anushka wrote, "We seek privacy for our child and would like to do our best to give her a chance to live her life freely away from media and social media. As she is older we cannot restrict her movement and hence your support is needed so kindly practice restraint in the matter."

When Vamika's pictures started circulating on the internet last weekend, Anushka penned a statement once again requesting fans and media portals not to publish photos of her daughter, saying that she wasn't aware that the camera was on them.

"Hi guys! We realise that our daughter's images were captured at the stadium yesterday and widely shared thereafter. We want to inform everyone that we were caught off guard and didn't know that the camera was on us. Our stance and request on the matter stay the same. We would really appreciate it if Vamika's images are not clicked/ published for reasons we have explained earlier. Thank You!" she wrote.

Kareena Kapoor Khan-Saif Ali Khan

Kareena and Saif's son Taimur had become the internet sensation at a very tender age even before he could recognise what was happening around him. When Taimur grew enough to understand the attention he was getting and recognise the media, reportedly, Saif asked the photographers and media not to stand outside his residence to get the glimpse of his son Taimur.

However, the couple never went overboard to hide him or his face when they saw media around trying to click his picture. After Jeh was born last year, Kareena had been posting his pictures on social media, but she also ensured that his face wasn't visible in them. It was only recently that we got a full glimpse of the star kid. Both Kareena and Saif have expressed discomfort about this media frenzy around their kids. In an interview wit NDTV, Kareena opened up about her conscious decision to keep her second son Jeh out of the media glare and said, “Not sharing many pictures of baby Jeh on social media to protect him from the constant pressure of being in the limelight. It is a bit of conscious decision because I think the fact that there was so much media frenzy on Taimur and his name and generally everything about him, so this time around, just need a little bit of breather. At the end of the day, they are kids, they need to have their space, they need to have their time. And I don’t want anybody to be so interested in them. They should be allowed their space to grow, not this constant pressure of being in the limelight. And that’s why we have taken this decision for Jeh.”

Neha Dhupia-Angad Bedi

Neha and Angad were blessed with Mehr in 2018 and later son Guriq Singh last year. Fans have been eagerly waiting to get a glimpse of the two babies, but the parents have ensured they are well protected until they are ready for it. While both Neha and Angad keep posting pictures of their babies, the internet is yet to get a glimpse of their faces. In an interview with IANS, Angad had opened up about protecting Mehr and said, "I think you have to protect your family, which I try and do to the best of my ability but we have to also understand that we are part of a celebrated profession, which is going to be bound by media scrutiny. I feel if we are okay with positivity, we should also be okay with this aspect too, which at a lot of level Neha and I are. We are just trying to protect her till the time she builds her own understanding. The day she starts understanding, we will not have a problem."

Dia Mirza-Vaibhav Rekhi

Dia and Vaibhav welcomed their baby boy Avyaan last year. The actress stepped out with her newborn a couple of times, but ensured the paps don't get to capture the baby's face. Dia shared few pictures of Avyaan, but fans are yet to get a glimpse of his face. Speaking to ETimes about the current paparazzi culture in India, especially concerning star kids, Dia had said, “I have always been a private person and my boundaries have been respected by everyone in the industry. I am even more protective about Avyaan, and whether we want to expose him to the gaze of the cameras early on or sometime later is something Vaibhav and I will decide in time. He is too young right now to be thrust into the limelight. He should have all the time in the world to just be a baby and enjoy his childhood in peace.”

Ajay Devgn-Kajol

Ajay and Kajol's kids may be frequently in news these days, but the couple decidedly kept them away from the spotlight at at one point of time to give them their space where they were not bogged down by any kind of pressure. In an interaction with PTI, Kajol had said, "Ajay and I made a conscious decision to keep our children away from the media. We feel we want to keep them away from the pressure, from the unnecessary burden which will come on them. I don't want that to happen. They shouldn't be under pressure by the media, public or even unknowingly by me, to become something. It should be their choice what they want to become, I will give them the platform to have that choice, but the choice has to be theirs with a free and clear mind."

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan-Abhishek Bachchan

At an event to honour her late father, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan visited a hospital in Mumbai with her daughter Aaradhya and mother Vrinda Rai. The actress was seen getting irritated by the paparazzi as they were repeatedly flashing cameras at Aaradhya and other kids present. "I am asking you all to keep silence. You don't need photos of all this. Me and you belong to this business, but all the others present here don't. Please show some respect. This is not a premiere, this is not another public event," she had said.

Shah Rukh Khan-Gauri Khan

Shah Rukh Khan has been pretty cool about his kids Aryan and Suhana being clicked by the paps, but he has been protective of AbRam from the flashlights. Apparently the kid himself is not too fond of unwanted attention and a couple of times when Shah Rukh Khan was spotted with his son AbRam at the airport, he was seen carrying AbRam in his arms who comfortably snuggled in daddy's embrace evading the flashlights.
