From Ajay Devgn's 'Bhuj: The Pride of India' to Sidharth Malhotra's 'Shershaah': Bollywood continues with its obsession with armed forces

'Kaalakaandi' actress Sobhita Dhulipala joins the cast of 'Major'

Talented actress Sobhita Dhulipala, who has starred in several critically acclaimed films like 'Kaalakaandi', 'Chef' and others has bagged a role in director Sashi Kiran's upcoming project 'Major'. Talking about her character in the film, Sobhita said, "The arc of my character in Major is impeccably detailed and done with honesty. Goodachari, my debut film in Telugu went on to become a critical and commercial success so it is doubly wonderful for me to reunite with the same team for a film as feisty as Major." The bilingual film is being shot in Telugu and Hindi will release in 2020.

The film is inspired on the life of national hero Sandeep Unnikrishnan, the NSG commando who lost his life in the tragic 26/11 terrorist attacks in Mumbai. Adivi Sesh, who has already started shooting for the film, will be seen playing the title role in 'Major'.

Bollywood continues with its obsession with armed forces

After the immense success of Vicky Kaushal's war drama 'Uri: The Surgical Strike' which released last year, filmmakers are looking keen to explore the genre. With A-listers like Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar and others, who took up the challenge and excel on the silver screen with their army flicks in the past, the younger generation seems to be taking the baton in their hands now.

Apart from remakes, army films have proven to be a successful genre in Bollywood and several new actor-director duos are teaming up for films based on armed forces. From Sidharth Malhotra's 'Shershaah' to Janhvi Kapoor's 'Gunjan Saxena' take a look at the upcoming Bollywood films which are based on army officers here:

Shershaah

Sidharth Malhotra is all set to essay the character of a military man for the first time on the silver screen. The talented actor is teaming up with filmmaker Vishnuvardhan for 'Shershaah' which is based on the life of Param Vir Chakra awardee and army captain Vikram Batra. The film is slated to release on 3 July 2020 and will also star Kiara Advani in a pivotal role. Sid, who had shared that 'Shershaah' is his passion project, received praise from all quarters when the actor shared his first look from the film last month.

Gunjan Saxena

Janhvi Kapoor, who made an impressive Bollywood debut with 'Dhadak' is all set to step into the shoes of IAF Pilot Gunjan Saxena, the first female and Indian woman airforce pilot. While the first look of the film grabbed everyone's attention, the young talented actress had recently revealed that she had got a chance to fly a chopper for the first time. 'Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl' which is slated to release on 24th April 2020 also stars Pankaj Tripathi and Angad Bedi in pivotal roles.

Bhuj The Pride of India

Ajay Devgn is riding high on the success of his recently released period drama 'Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior' which seems to be on a juggernaut run at the box office. But looks like the versatile actor is all set to don the uniform as he steps in the shoes of IAF Squadron Leader Vijay Karnik in his upcoming film 'Bhuj: The Pride of India'. The film which is written and directed by Abhishek Dudhaiya will be releasing this year and will feature a real-life incident which took place at the Bhuj airport during the 1971 Indo-Pak war.

Sam

Vicky Kaushal played an army man in 'Uri: The Surgical Strike' and took home the National Award for Best Actor by delivering a stellar performance on the celluloid. The versatile star is all set to collaborate with renowned filmmaker Meghna Gulzar once again post 'Raazi' for a film which will be based on the life of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw. In an interview with IANS, Vicky had opened up about the project. "It's an honour of the highest order for me to get an opportunity to play the part of Field Marshal Manekshaw," he said. As per reports, the fil will go on floors in 2021.

Tejas

Kangana Ranaut upcoming project 'Thalaivi' has become the talk of the town but its the maverick actress too is all set to don the uniform as she teams up with filmmaker Sarvesh Mewara for 'Tejas'. The film is set to go on floors this summer and will release in April 2021. While the first look of the film left everyone stunned, Kangana had shared that it was an honour to be a part of the film. "Very often, the sacrifices made by our brave women in uniform go unnoticed by the nation. 'Tejas' is a film where I have the honour of playing the role of one such Air Force pilot who puts country before self," she said.
