Your life is a lie ' that is the thumb rule for spies or individuals working with intelligence agencies across the world. RAW (Research and Analysis Wing) is a pillar of India's defence structure that protects us from infiltrators and tips off the government with strategic data to combat the country's enemies. People who work in the agency's covert operations are bravehearts who lay down their lives for the nation.
When caught on foreign soil, they are unfortunately disowned by their own motherland. Director Abhinay Deo's 'Force 2', starring
John Abraham,
Sonakshi Sinha and
Tahir Raj Bhasin, pays an ode to these unsung heroes.
During the making of the film itself, the makers had decided to take this move. In fact, a special slide was also added to the trailer that read, 'Dedicated to the heroes who sacrificed their lives for the country and yet remained unnamed and unrecognised'.
Vinod Sawhney, a former
RAW agent, who spent 10 years in a Pakistani jail, says, 'Hum woh badnaseeb hai jo jawaani kya hai, woh jaante hi nahin. Bachpana jiya aur phir jail main jawaani kaati, ab sirf budhaapa hai.' (I'm one of those unfortunate guys who don't know what does mean to be young. After I lived my childhood, I spent my youth in prison, now all that I have is my old age).
He adds, 'The only thing that keeps us going is our love for India and the patriotism that we feel for her. We are not part of a battalion that is charging towards an enemy armed with tanks and guns, we operate as individuals who are constantly under threat in distant countries knowing that our nation will not recognise us if we are caught in the line of duty.'
What's more, as spies, they are not allowed to tell their families what they do for a living. He elaborates, 'When I was captured, my own family didn't know whether I was alive or dead. After a few years, they performed my last rites because they didn't believe I could be alive.'
Vinod continues, 'Hamari auratein yeh nahi jaanti ki who suhaagan hai ya vidhwa' they don't know whether they should fast on Karva Chauth, whether they should dress up like a married woman or live as a widow.'
He divulges that the children of agents are shunned by the society because their fathers have spent many years on Pakistani soil. Agent Ramraj of Jammu and Kashmir returned to India after nine years of intense physical and mental torture. He was subjected to hard labour in Pakistan and returned mentally unfit. His wife Suvarnadevi is still searching for an eligible husband for their daughter but no one wants to form an alliance with such a family. Kuldeep Yadav from Gujarat, Kashmir Singh from Punjab, Suram Singh from Jammu and Omprakash from Kahsmir ' these are some of the former spies whose families are leading tumultuous lives.
Today, Sawhney is the President of Jammu Ex-Sleuths Association that has been working for the welfare of agents who have been missing in action over the years.
Producers' Notes Vipul Amrutlal Shah:'While making 'Force 2', we came across many stories of young men who sacrificed everything ' comforts, families and even their lives for their country. This film is our way of paying a tribute to them and their sacrifice for our nation.'
Ajit Andhare(COO, Viacom18 Motion Pictures):'Cinema is a reflection of society and given the current state of affairs of our country, we believe that 'Force 2' is a relevant film that one and all must watch. This action thriller will not only entertain but also pose questions that will give viewers some food for thought.'
Director's Take Abhinay Deo: 'I have been closely involved with the scripting and research of this film. Our entire team feels deeply for the cause and has utmost respect and gratitude towards the forces that guard our nation. While we were shooting, we had no idea that India would lash out with the surgical strikes or campaign against black money with such conviction. We are proud that our movie echoes the same sentiment as that of our motherland.'
'Force 2', presented by Viacom18 Motion Pictures, Sunshine Pictures Pvt Ltd and JA Entertainment Pvt Ltd, releases November 18.
'Akira' and 'Force 2' are different experiences, I love doing action: Sonakshi
